A slightly warmer but duller day in Tallinn today. We walked about an hour to the Kadriorg Park which cleared our heads. The park looked rather forlorn with the trees without leaves but we had a hot chocolate to warm up before seeing the house built by Peter the Great.
After walking back to the old town, and another hot drink stop, we visited the museum of occupation.
After that it was time to start the journey home with a short flight back to Helsinki to connect to the flight to London.
So, a lazy start with breakfast at 9… ish. We then checked out and walked up towards the centre of Helsinki where we got on the tram fora whistle stop tour of the centre.
We circled the main bits of the city before changing trams and heading back towards the cathedral in the rock.
It was really cold again in Helsinki and so after a stop for hot chocolate we went back to pick up our bags and then on the the ferry terminal to Tallin.
The ferry left early and we passed the couple of hours in the ferry in the usual way!
By the time we arrived in Tallinn it was almost dark so once we’d checked into the hotel we walked into the old town Square to see the Christmas market.
We stopped for a drink at the Depeche Mode bar before having some food and waking back to the hotel.
It was now about 10pm and Charlotte and Ed headed to bed and we went back for another beer at the DM bar.
Early start this morning and we met Charlotte and Ed in the car park! Checked in and the traditional beer, despite the early hour.
We left London on time and just under three hours later we were landing in a cold, but bright, Helsinki.
We caught the train to the centre and then a taxi to our hotel, the Radisson Blu Seaside. As we were early, we couldn’t check in so we dropped our bags and went exploring, with some food being the first stop. After that we had a wander!

Helsinki is VERY cold. It’s about -2 celcius but then there is the wind chill. We stopped a couple of times, the first for a hot chocolate!
The proof that not every drink contains alcohol!
We walked back to the hotel and checked in. The room is huge although quite industrial – I think it’s supposed to be trendy.
After a shower and freshen up we met up with Charlotte and Ed for some food at 7.30. none of us could face the outside again so we stayed in the hotel restaurant and after a couple of drinks had a really lovely, if not expensive, meal. An early night beckoned and we were asleep by 10.30 after such an early start.
This Friday night sees us travelling for an overnight stay in a hotel near Heathrow before an alarm call at stupid o’clock for a flight to Helsinki with Charlotte and Ed.
We decided that we probably couldn’t afford Helsinki for more than one night, do we’re staying until Sunday afternoon before getting the ferry to Tallin for another couple of nights!
Don’t think this will be a full blog, but might try and post some photos as we go.
Pretty average meal at the holiday Inn express Terminal 5 before an early night for a 4.30am alarm call.
